Hi folks. Please sign me back up to the webserver. I am back from my 2nd road trip in 3 months. I'm sorry for you that live in the desert. I visited Phoenix and Laughlin for about a week, and for the entire visit, I had trouble breathing. This was my 1st trip to the desert and being so dry, I had a hard time breathing while I was out there. Friends we visited said I'd get used to it, but 1 thing I couldn't get used to was NO TREES, NO SHADE. Sorry, but I think I'll stay in humid Michigan. Now on to my problem. As some of you might remember, I have a leaky water valve in my survivor H. Bob Merritt was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction for repairs/replacement, but I have to get it out first. I've started to remove the glove box to get to it and run into my 1st problem. I hope someone can answer my 'easy' questions. Remember, I'm no mechanic. 1) It appears the fuse block needs to be disconnected to get the glove box out. Is this correct? 2) Does the glove box come out thru the opening or drop down once the fuse box is disconnected? 3) In glancing up there, I can't see the water valve. Does the heater need to come out also? 4) Am I over my head trying to get this out? thanks again for all your help Jim Maiani Houghton Lake, Michigan survivor H with a bad water valve. Hi Don, The issue with the lights was ease of checking adjustment. I think I read somewhere that a lot of mechanics and some people in law enforcement complained about the glass covers interfering with headlight alignment equipment. I know on the Imperial that there are 6 fine thread screws holding the bezels on. I do have an extra left side glass with some pits that I will let go. Contact me off list Dave. Hi David, I have pictures of the '65 300L headlamp and the '65 Imperial headlamp. They are similar but not the same. Attachments are not permitted on the Listserver, so I will send the pictures to you separately. The entire frames appear to be slightly different in shape, and the glass is definitely different. They both have the narrow horizontal white stripes across the entire glass with plain circular areas directly in front of the headlamps where the light shines through. However the main difference in the glass is that the 300L has a black and gold decal border around the glass with a crown design at the center top location. The Imperial does not have a border. Oddly enough, you might think the Imperial would have had the crown design (Crown Imperial) and the Chrysler would not. The 300, 300L and New Yorker have the glass covered headlamps, which I think are identical. The Newport did not. I heard that the reason they eliminated the glass covers the next year was that snow would not melt on the glass as it did on the warm headlamps. They did retain them on the Imperial for 1966, probably because low production did not justify the retooling expense. If the snow was the problem, I wonder how modern cars that all have molded plastic covers do not have the problem. Maybe the lamps get hotter and radiate enough heat to the covers? Hi All, While driving my 300L rag top from NJ down to VA, I took an errant rock in the driver's side headlight glass. Ouch!! Might someone have an extra? Also open to buying a set if that helps. I believe this glass may be shared with a few other Chrysler/Imperial models from '65. Thank you in advance for any suggestions or help!
