In NYS we have a hands free law that states you cannot be holding any electronic device with your hand, GPS, Cell Phone, Ipod, ect. The road block that was set up next to my office, nabbed my office mate for having his GPS unit affixed to the windshield. The trooper who wrote his citation told him that NYS law states that no device can be mounted above the dashboard plane (I assume back to the old radar detector days) . Half the cars on the I90 thruway would be in violation if they elected to enforce it. It must have been a slow day as they usually do a brisk business on writing up drivers for inspection stickers out of date. A portable GPS would also not be covered by insurance if someone were to break into your car to remove it. After my office worker got nailed it was one of the reasons I installed a used factory RB1 head unit into my 300M special, the one I installed has built in blue tooth as well. I checked with my carrier and she stated that the unit would be covered if someone damaged the car and took it, I also installed one in my wife's jeep although her unit does not have the Bluetooth feature. I agree that in your letter car it would handy to have, and easy to remove when parked, just watch out in NY. See some of you soon in St Louis.
