I forgot to mention that Chrysler/Dodge have a fix consisting of a revised cowl molding (black plastic).  Water on top of the block and adjacent to a leaky intake manifold could damage any engine, even a stout old Chrysler 300 hemi.  The failures often came after downpours or after going through a car wash.

Hi All:

Had the same problem with my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 (360 ci) and solved it 
by putting a line of deflecting material in an inverted V to divert the 
water to either side of the block. Haven't had the problem since.

as are found in my ’05 Dodge Durango have been experiencing catastrophic 
failures due to rain or carwash water leaking past the cowl seal, standing 
on top of the block and being ingested into the intake system past leaky 
intake gaskets. The water goes into the cylinder and, being incompressible, 
forms hydraulic lock, piston, rod, block and cylinder head failures. It would 
seem that water leaking from a head gasket into the top end of a cylinder 
could do the same thing.
