Hi to All, While troubleshooting a hard start problem, I checked the voltage at the coil side of the ballast resistor and found it to be 4.9V. Thinking this was a bit low, I replaced the resistor which BTW was available at Advance for a paltry $5.49. This netted me 8.9V at the coil. Previously, throwing 12V directly to the coil easily started the car as did changing the resistor. Which brings me to a question. I had heard that the start circuit of some cars bypass the ballast resistor and provide battery voltage for starting only. In checking the start circuit diagram, fig 103 of the 57 FSM, I see no such provision and no such wire exists on my car. Am I missing something?
