I don't know 'zackly how the new nozzles work, but I'd bet they are designed to work best when fit into the small-diameter choke orifice in modern filler tubes. This concentrates the rush of almost full fuel back at the nozzle and kicks it off. I've had a similar problem off and on with the filler on the RHS of the rear fender on my '55 C-300. But it has a longer filler tube that may just kick back enough fuel to kick off the nozzle. One might put a restrictor plate into the fill tube and see if that helps. Could be a marvelous safety invention. In the olden days, the nozzles were larger diameter and, perhaps, more sensitive to back flow in the full-diameter filler tubes. Safety demands vigilance when filling the thirsty Brutes. Rich Barber Brentwood, CA (105 yesterday-maybe a little cooler today. When I fill the gas tank on my C the automatic nozzle shutoff on the pump will not shut off. The problem is absolute and has happened at enough different stations that I know the problem has to be my car and not the pump. The only way I have found to control it is to literally put my ear to the flow and listen for the gas as it loads up the filler tube. Am I alone with this problem? BTW, the problem has remained even after switching from one new tank to another new one. Thanks.
