Avgas DID NOT CAUSE your exhaust manifold gasket failure.  Of course, if you don't want to use avgas that's your choice.  It's expensive.

I used av gas once.
Had to replace exhaust manifold gaskets the next week.
Didn't buy avgas a second time.
Best I can do is drive 35 miles to get 93 octane corn gas--which is better than 91 corn gas.
