Fern and Tony and All,
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Tony. I wish I did have that kind
of contact information. I got a couple of leads at the business meeting at
the meet for whom I might try to contact regarding getting that
information. Have not had the time to pursue it, but it is in my future
plans.
It is correct that Gil has the microfiche only for the '55 through '64
lettercars. The best I have is a collection of many data plates from
members' 300Ls along with the options that are on the cars. Studying this
info has enabled me to have a fairly complete interpretation of what each number
and letter on the plate stands for. Even with that, there are a few
mysteries. I will be glad to decode any member's 300L data plate.
Just send me a photo of the plate and a list of the options on the car.
You will get a pretty good decoding of the plate and I will get to add another
data plate to the database. That increases the accuracy of the
codes.
With the changes that have taken place at Chrysler over the past 20 years,
it is probably an increasingly dauntless task to get the kind of info we want
for our cars that are now between 48 and 58 years old. Hard to believe
they are that old, isn't it?
