Hi Gary,

 

The Valve tappet clearance for your 1957 300C:

Intake  -    Hot . 015,  Cold .015

Exhaust – Hot  .024,  Cold    .028

 

The clearance on a hot engine should be when it is idling.  Between  valve stem and rocker arm.

 

I use five different feeler gauges that are 12 inches long  - .014  .015,     .023, .024,  .025
