Patrick, Repetitions of starter gear faiure most certainly would be due to an alignment or fit problem with the starter, loose or damaged bellhousing mount, loose converter mount, incorrect starter, incorrect starter drive gear, incorrect ring gear, or something similar in nature, but almost certainly NOT because of any lock-up trouble be it engine lockup, transmission lockup, or converter lockup.
