As I understand, the 405 hp short ram engine was a dealer installed option on the 300-H.  They did not come from the factory.

Does anyone know of a 300H ht or conv that came from the factory with the 405 hp short ram engine? I personally don't think that there was any of them sold with that power train except for some 300 sport coupe which were much lighter and more suitable for the race track.

Hi John,

The 405 HP engine was mentioned in the short history placards.

You are correct that it was not mentioned in this long history.

Will fix.

Thank you,
Tony

In 1962, there were two engine options available, both 413 cubic inches.  One rated at 380 HP and 450 lbs/ft. with 10:1 compression.  The other (available as a factory order option only) had the “Short Ram” induction and rated at 405 HP and 473 lbs/ft. with 11:1 compression.

(Note:  The Hot Rod Special prepared for the Winter National Drag Races was a 300 Sport with the 405 HP Short Ram option and radio and heater delete.  The only photo I have seen of a heater delete plate installed on the firewall.)
I got the above info from an article by Doug Warrener published in Hemmings Muscle Machines, January 2008.

Hi To All,

The effort that members contributed to the short histories for the Diamond Jubilee Big Top Tent car placards is in the process of being used to update the 300 Club Int’l website by Bob Merritt.

The table of facts and the descriptive text is undergoing one last review by the perspective letter year consultants.

Noel Hastalis has agreed to complete a detailed spec sheet that will be used as a poster.

That leaves the full history of the Chrysler 300 from inception through today’s offering. This info will be printed on a 4 ft. tall poster.

Please help us by reviewing the text.

Please download it, review it and edit away with any changes you feel will accurately portray the history of the 300 Marque.

Suggested changes can be e-mailed. OR the document is set up to tract changes (deletions will be strike thrus and additions will show up on the side.)

Make your suggested changes and add your initials to the document's name and e-mail it.

The description of the current offerings is weak. Not sure if there will be a model change by 2015?

Looking forward to your assistance & input.

Tony Rinaldi,
Mark Souders,
Tony Bevacqua
