Re: [Chrysler300] Stick shift G for sale

If I was to check this G out, what clues should I look for to confirm that it is the re-bodied Windsor?
I also know of another G stick that is being restored by a neighbor. It is white with a factory red interior.

Greetings All:

Time for me to weigh in with my personal recollections of a Black Stick Shift 300G that I was up close and personal with, in Sacramento, California, back around 1983-1984.  Most likely this is the same car, given how few were made.  Here is my recollection on the car and its history.

Back when the "Inc." Club was formed in 1969, one of the founding members owned a stick shift 300G.  I'm not sure of the original color, but the car had been repainted red.  At some point, the former owner had the unfortunate circumstance of sliding the G into a fence post, crushing one quarter panel and fin just behind the rear wheel.  The G was parked and it sat idle throughout the 1970's.  This car had the reputation and was known at the time as being the car that started the "Inc." club.  Around 1982, another "Inc." Club member in Sacramento, California purchased the damaged G in hopes of repairing and resurrecting this rare automobile.  This particular member owned his own business, which included a shop and a crew of maintenance technicians with the skill to undertake this project.  Finding the body damage considerable, this member obtained the body shell of a stick shift Windsor.  He had the crew transplant the guts of the G into the Windsor body shell as part of the restoration, including the body data plate and VIN plate.  The car was painted black as part of the project, most likely because the car was originally black.  It was then outfitted with a tan reproduction interior.  The car was completed and shown at local car shows in 1984.  Shortly after that, the member sold the car and I haven't seen it since then.

Between 1983 and 1985, I was a college student in Sacramento, California, and this particular "Inc." club member employed me at his business.  I watched as the stick shift G was rebuilt in the shop and still remember seeing the old and damaged G shell sitting gutted in his yard before it was hauled off and crushed.

So if someone in Sacramento, California is selling a black stick shift G, I am willing to bet money that it is the same car I just described above and has been sitting quietly and out of site of the two 300 clubs for 30 years.

I'd love to hear Gils input but I think there are only two numbers matching code 281's known.  Andy Mikonis's white car and my red one.

I  might be a little out of date 'cause I haven't paid that close attention.  Five known at last count.  None black.

Anyone in the area to have a look and get the chassis number and data plate images?

John
