Re: [Chrysler300] Another Tire Question

The officialdom of replacements says 7.60-15 became 8.45-15 then 8.55-15 then H78-15 then P225/75R15. And yes 1962 should be about 1 inch +/-.

The P225/75R15 are still available in narrow whitewall Hankook H724 on Amazon.com - they were $72.96 incl shipping but just went up to $79 each incl shipping. Hankooks are also available on eBay, Discount Tire Direct, and Sears, etc. They are also still available in narrow whitewall in Maxxis MA1 (Coker), Greemax 5000, and Milestar MS775. Maxxis is more well known for ATV tires and have a good reputation there.

Toyo & Cooper have blackwalls that could be customized by Diamond Tire to any whitewall width you want $.

My clear choice would be the Hankook H724 (made in Korea or Indonesia) - Not sure where the others are made but per Wiki, the companies show Greemax (Crown Tire Industrial, China) and Milestar (Nanking Tire, Taiwan) and Maxxis (Cheng Shin Rubber Ind Ltd, Taiwan).

But in reality, the 7.60-15 was typically about 28.7 in OD with a Static Loaded Radius of about 13.3 inches.

The P225/75R15 is typically about 28.3 to 28.4 inches OD with a Static Loaded Radius of about 12.7 inches so it will lower the car by about 0.6 inches and will make your speedometer read about 1% faster than you are going.

The P235/75R15 is typically about 28.9 inches OD with a Static Loaded Radius of about 12.9 inches, so it will make your speedometer about 0.7% slower than actual speed but will still lower your car - but only by 0.4 inches.

Also there are more companies still making the P235/75R15 in narrow whitewall including Cooper Trendsetter SE and its Mastercraft and Multimile and other clones. As an aside, Amazon has the Hankook H724 in this size  for $75 which is less than the P225/75R15 now - and the P235/75R15 Hankook H724 are XL (extra load rated) which are typically more expensive - go figure.

Not trying to push Amazon here - no interest in them other than I just bought 2 sets of tires from them after researching the other sources. Sears was my second choice for Hankooks based on price with available local mounting.

Hi again guys.  I know we’ve been through this before, but I can’t seem to find my tire emails from the past.

I need new radials for my H.  I understand the original tires were 7.60-15, and the radial replacement is 225/75R15,  and it’s supposed to have a 1 1/8” whitewall.  I can’t seem to find this 1 1/8” WW or even a 1” WW in the 225 size.  Does anybody know where?

Thanks again

I believe that John Hertog ran one of the new starters in his cars

The info might be in one of the back issue newsletters
