All electrical devices run on smoke particularly electronics which are hermetically sealed to keep the smoke in​!  If it comes out, they stop working!

Like Larry I too have a supply of these just sitting around awaiting a use.

They have been prone to rusting up in some of the applications they

were used in and can be easy to distroy, 

Hence the strong possibility of finding some on the 'help' racks at your
local auto parts place.
