Re: [Chrysler300] Differential gear oil redux

Despite earlier misgivings about possible brass pieces , there are  not highly loaded bronze bushings or similar parts like in a manual trans . ( syncros) . I am going to keep using mobil 1 GL5 , like Don V said . I was not trying to say no good in mopar rears-- i use it . I just happened to read about sulfur in it and bronze/brass problems. Even if buttons are sometimes brass , we do not drive cars 20 k a year and these pieces are not highly loaded .. And most are apparently steel . I do not know .
I do not think 75 or 90 weight makes any difference ; lighter thinner synthetic stays right vicosity , hot or cold . 90 weight probably less than 75 wt when hot .
I would feel ok with either . My .02-- and a preference for synthetic 75

If you can't find 90w oil at the chain stores, try a shop that specializes in rebuilding rear axles. They may give you a couple of quarts for free, or at least point you in the right direction.

Hell All --

In spite of the long thread regarding gear oils a few weeks ago, I am still unclear regarding a simple question:  Is it OK to use Mobil 1 (or any other major brand) synthetic 75w-90 LS GL-5 gear oil in the differential of my 1957 Chrysler 300C?   Careful reading of their MSDS shows it contains an extreme-pressure sulfur-bearing compound, but I don't know if my diff has any brass/bronze parts that might possibly be compromised.  Automotive chain stores around here don't even carry the old GL-4 stuff any more; only the GL-5 lubes specifically targeted for limited-slip use (which I don't have).

Thanks for any insights.
