I have been connected with a foreign party who is seeking help in the form of '55 Chrysler parts. It turns out that an iconic '55 New Yorker convertible that was owned when new by a famous person was recently located in some jungle overgrowth, and now it is being resurrected for display in a museum in that country. A documentary of the restoration process is being made by a British video production company.
At this point it appears that locals there are handling the body panel needs with quite some resourcefulness, but most mechanical parts - and a few of the body parts - are a real challenge to obtain. All of the parts they need are identical to those on a C-300, so I have offered to approach our 300 Club for help in coming up with them. This is the current list of needs as they have given it:
Starter motor
Alternator/generator
Distributer
2 exhaust manifolds
2 engine mounts
Window winding mecanism for both doors
Door locking mechanism for for both doors
Sun visor for front windshield
Rear ¾ windows
Rear lights (need the major moulding of rear lenses)
Insignia or emblem that goes on toop of the hood
Rear bumper light to illuminate the license plate
Power brake unit complete. With its vacuum suplly hose, screws and rubber wheels
Rear Wheel hubs
Hydraulic pump mechanism to elevate the convertible roof)
If you folks into the early 300s would kindly check your old parts stock and see what you might be willing to part with, they would appreciate it immensely. I have offered to be a collecting point for them in Michigan and will get them shipped out from here.
Of these items, the ones they say they need first are the 5 at the top of the list - generator, starter, distributor, manifolds, and engine mounts. What can you help with? If you have questions, I can be contacted during the day at 616-772-6000.
Thanks guys.
