Hi Paul, SAME THINKING! I have a 79 and a 77 100/150 ( 77 really a mix of 77/78 /79) , 79 stock, 318 short bed stepside , no rust great shape, maroon ; 77 frame off resto of 77 frame and (was yellow) stepside body, two tone red and white, all black on bottom, all new stuff, 2 1/4" real dual exhaust, ( a bear to get duals into those) . I put in 67 273 , Edelbrock small quad, (GAS!) , 4WD, mile master NP203 center diff lock up kit, GMC 5" bolt pattern ends on Dodge axles (D44) in front, to get strong Warn hubs (it fits!) 9/4 rears in both,727 in both. 9 1/4 in 77 has aftermarket (? Moser? Mosely? ) axles to get 5" pattern, 16" x 8 Cragar wheels . Love it. But hate 9 1/4, both have the big loud 100k mile "dodge clunk" and vibration. Presently changing converter, two new Denny's driveshafts in it, and new NP203 on the floor in garage , (gov't surplus..good deal)--all chasing growing --and gets severe--- vibration at 80 + ; I am determined to have one of these that does not vibrate--these are #4 and #5 ; 8 3/4 so much better axle than 9 1/4 ; tempted to just do that, or Ford. Axle is prime suspect on noise and vibration, but pinion bearing tight and OK. A mystery. Vibrates even with no front shaft. 360 converter with weights taken off (273 is internal balanced)..might have screwed up. ...why you have "imperial" axle? MOPAR should have just used 8 3/4 everywhere; both JEEP AMC 20 (in Grand Cherokees) and 9 1/4 are UTTER JUNK. Side carrier bearings go in short miles, even with just light use, the fun starts as it loosens up. I have never had to go into an 8 3/4, and I beat them unmercifully. 440 challenger, and 57 D500 dodge convert with 392 300D stick / Packard OD floor shift, oil truck 3800 lb clutch, velvetouch metallic disc (what you need, to live behind a 392 stick, full boat off the line!) 3:70 8 3/4. Blew 6-8 trans dragging, never hurt that axle. (D500 325 hemi blew up twice, 283 chevies killed it, not 392) . 392 is the ultimate mopar motor..to me anyway. Comes on at top end like crazy. PS, that 392 dodge killed all the 57-60 chebbies around,,,back in the day. Even got a 421 tri power 4 spd Poncho, brand new 61 or 62 Ventura coupe ..one of best nights of my life! "FrankenTruck" = 80 Dodge 150, with a 2000 replacement bed, a 1977 400 big block and auto tranny with go fast parts, an Imperial sure grip rear axle. -- Paul Holmgren No electrons were harmed in the posting of this message; however, large masses of them were slightly inconvenienced. ------------------------------------ Posted by: paul <paulholm@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang ------------------------------------ Yahoo Groups Links ------------------------------------ Posted by: "John Grady" <jkg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang ------------------------------------ Yahoo Groups Links <*> To visit your group on the web, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/ <*> Your email settings: Individual Email | Traditional <*> To change settings online go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join (Yahoo!
