Re: [Chrysler300] KYB Shock Install Update

To date just the rears seem to be affected, and only in some cases.  I installed four KYB rears on two vehicles, and one on each went bad.  So, put the two good ones on one vehicle and NOS Monroes on the other.  The extended length of the KYB rears is noticeably shorter than the Monroes.  Our guess was that perhaps with the rear end dangling that excessive strain was being put on the seals.  That and possibly the seals are not of the highest quality anymore.  Imagine that.
The solution for changing a tire is to use two jacks, one under the frame and one under the diff to keep the rear from fully dangling.

Bob,

If that's the case, KYBs should be avoided entirely.  How would you change a flat?  This is a major problem, We shouldn't be recommending these shocks.

Seems to be the KYB's produced or supplied in the
last 2 years are having the problem, older
versions aren't affected.

So Dave,  if that's the case, just how are you supposed to raise the car on a lift?  Like to rotate tires or do brake work? I have a lift here, and KYBs on my 300G for at least 7 years.  No shock oil leaks that I see.

Dou, Ya just gotta pull it out while the shock is extending If I recall.

It’s just a plastic strap

Make sure you have it aimed at the hole on the tower.

On the rears, DO NOT jack up the car by the frame and let the rear end hang from the shocks!!

They will begin to leak! BTDT!! TWICE already

I have a question for the author of the KYB Shock Install Update.

After the wire is clipped, how do you remove it from on top of the rubber bushing that is now under pressure?
