Hi Johnnie-
I have tried but have been unsuccessful in working with Leatherique to
create a correct match dye for the metallic claret red interior in the J.
Leatherique claims that new EPA regulations in the last couple years have
outlawed the production of the correct pigments! They even tried to source
some older pigments from Europe but were unsuccessful. (Note: political comments
about the EPA are not appropriate for this forum, however tempting it might be).
It is a difficult color to match in leather dye. Best place I found
for an unfaded sample was at the very back of the rear door panels which are
hidden by the rear seat. In the past the dye was available. SMS
claims that they have new reproduction leather for the J available with the
correct color, but I do not know anyone who has actually bought and received
any. SMS operates at somewhat slower than a glacial pace, but they are
known for correct materials. As of the last club meet, Jamie Hyde
was corresponding with Gary Goers about reproducing the seat covers again.
But that doesn’t solve your problem or my problem about redying leather in good
condition that has discolored or was poorly redyed at some point.
If anyone has a current source for correct dye, let us know. SEM
paint is not an option for leather.

Subject: [Chrysler300] J interior dye I am working on a J that had the front seat covers replaced around 10 years
ago-----although the car was never used---it was stored inside with a good cover
on it-----the covers have faded to a brown color-----is there a source for the
correct leather dye---I am not sure where I can remove a small portion that is
the correct color to use as a color match-?----Johnnie Slayton __._,_.___ Posted by: "C Bilter" <cbilter@xxxxxxxxx> To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang __,_._,___ |
