You may be missing the thrust block pin(s) in the center of the axle..they fall out if not careful when pulling axle—grease makes them stick to axle end then they fall off once out of bore they sit in. ; then the same guy removes the shims trying to adjust the ?.013? side to side.; cannot be done without the pins; even worse-- if driven like that, axle rides off center in Timken bearings at ends, causing brake shoe drag, combined with rear axle fluid leaks at brakes. (wrecks seals) ( drum moves up into shoes) ,and if on highway burning up back brakes (ask me how I know, in Minnesota on way to Boston with my “new” first F convert in 70’s). Guy involved was club member, knew about this non adjusted condition ,did not tell me he left it like that. . Left un named out of charity. Cost me 2 k back then for tow off 90 near Chicago storage and shipping. Later I found out it is possible to fix by welding two small welding rods together to make long rod, put pin on end with heavy grease, get bright flashlight and do through axle hole . This leaves old pins in bottom of pumpkin, don’t like it, but apparently they sit ok. (they are there right now). Otherwise you have to pull pumpkin This happened a lot back in the day, guys working on brakes pulling axles or wheel bearings . You are LUCKY you know about it, if this E mail is right. From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Carl Westman carl.j.westman@xxxxxxxxx [Chrysler300] When disassemble my rear axle on the G for an overhaul there was no shims adjusting the axle end play, i'm pretty sure i will need a set later on, any leads where to find those? Or any other way to solve the issue? //Carl __._,_.___ Posted by: "John Grady" <jkg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang __,_._,___ |
