Gary,

I had mine done in a base/clear urethane with a bit of flatting agent in the clear and I couldn't be more pleased. It looks like the day we did it even after thousands of miles - no rust stains starting at all. And I just hose it off when we take it through rain.

I believe the color is a BMW silver from the '90s, I should be able to find out that BMW color if you like, and could also send you a picture of my engine to show how it came out.
