Re: [Chrysler300] Disc brakes, et al.

Dan:
You may be able to limit your liability by disclosing to a buyer the fact that you installed the aftermarket brakes and that you believe they were properly installed, but you suggest that they have the car inspected prior to the sale to make their own decision as to any work you have done.
That puts your buyer on notice and gives him/her the opportunity to make an informed decision.

Hi to all:

INSTALLER BEWARE!!!

I am not an attorney but attorneys have told me this ...

I don't care how much care one puts into making their vehicle safe.  If home made installations  or non authorized parts are  used, such as aftermarket disc brake kits, the ultimate responsibility lies with the owner who installed them, no matter how many owners there are after the installation.  The same goes for cars as well as home built aircraft.  Unfortunately, you cannot escape that liability.

I designed and constructed a disc brake assembly for my F and I called upon every bit of engineering knowledge I knew in the design.  I over engineered the adapter brackets to add lots of room for safety.  Even if all the bolts simultaneously fall out, neither the calipers nor the caliper/adapter brackets can dislodge much from their mounted position.  I believe I will be warned in advance of a problem and can stop safely.  After a couple of years of usage, some of my bolts did indeed work loose so I applied a generous amount of Loc-Tite and they have held up very well for many years.  And yes, I had originally torqued  all bolts to their recommended specs.

Like many of the members, most of my driving of the F is on long trips so I may drive for up to 200 miles without touching the brakes.  Also, I am not a tailgater.  I love that throttle though!!

My advice ... just be careful and be prepared to accept any responsibility occurring from your actions!
