Good point, Ron. The club does not certify cars. The closest thing would be a car that is concours judged at a meet. Day-of-show we can say what it was that day. From what I understand, though I have not seen the paperwork, the VIN of this car was established to have been equipped with a manual transmission. There is also allegedly a code suggesting it was a press car. Unless someone proves otherwise, my theory is that it was one of the several 300-Gs in the New York press launch, coverage of which we reprinted in News-Flite 146. As Don pointed out, to suggest there is any direct "Daytona" or "race" connection to this car is false. The manual transmission was a new-for-1961 Heavy Duty unit used for many years after in many vehicles, not a specifically "high performance" or "race" transmission. The '61 race cars had that transmission, but so did some standard 300-Gs like this one. Andy M. Having a concours in Elkhart Lake. Bring that G!
