Hi, I did some research on this topic earlier this year. All 1961 300G factory code 281 cars were 3-speeds. However, a car could be a factory 3-speed without having the 281 code. That means if the production records show 281 code, it’s an easy way to verify the car was originally a 3-speed. If not, it’s much harder to prove.
