Re: [Chrysler300] Re: 57 300C rear brakes

Front end is/was stock 12 x 2-1/2, including the upper control arm bushings that I already replaced.  I did an AAJ Disc Brake conversion on the front, but retained all the original parts, so I do have 12 x 2-1/2 extra shoes, they just don't fit my 11" rear brake drums.  There is a local junk yard that has a 57 Chrysler in it.  I could probably inquire about that rear axle once I check and make sure it is a 12" system.

57 Dodge/Desoto ..or smaller Chrysler?  ; the 12" X2.5 are only on bigger / performance cars. that mistake happens with "60 Chrysler" backing plates and drums/ shoes  too. Ask me how I know.

Suggestion, if staying stock, get a full set of late 58 up 300, 60-61 to be sure; (probably 62 too, but not sure personally) , even better. All much better stuff than 57 , big upgrades, mid 58; why confusion on wheel cylinders etc in 58 , made both ways. I redid one,  went up to 60 stuff all around ,  Backing plates are heavier , cam "flat spring like thing " twice as heavy,=  thicker backing plate distance ; wheel cylinders had to change , shoe details too . Someone probably has a full 60-61 rear take off. Tony Rinaldi was trying to sell whole axle, he has rear discs on his car , might try him .If axle wrong and going original, = one answer.

Upper Control arm bushings/ control arms  also upgraded at same time . but may not want to go into front suspension. I did do that. Why 58 front suspension stuff is confusing too. 57 looks like toy stuff next to later.

Tony was posting about upgrading his brakes again; could go disc, like Rob Kern discussed. Use all the learning and info Tony has amassed. Definitely in play if you have the wrong brakes/ wrong axle (ratio?) . F and R ? or just R are 11? Maybe someone swapped whole axle , brakes were  a sideshow. Check ratio?

This is also common on transmission, AAmco gives you a Plymouth trans for your 300 back then.

Sounds like someone has replaced the entire rear end!

Hello List Server,

Another Brake Question on my 57 300C and trying to find brake shoes for the rear.

I just measured my rear drums, and they are 11", not 12!!

The linings are indeed 2-1/2 inches wide, but the drum is definitely 11", not 12".  Anyone ever hear of this?

anyone have a recommended source for rear brake shoes for 57C?  Maybe a place to get mine relined in the Boston area?  I have a listing of NAPA TS86 for 300G, but no listing for 57C.  Both are 12x2-1/2, but maybe mount differently?

Thanks,
