RE: [Chrysler300] 1961 300 G A/C Fuse & 1964 300K A/C circuitry

In our ’64 300K with FA/C, there are two fuses in the A/C system.  The compressor clutch is fed from the 15-Amp ACC fuse while the three-speed blower is powered from its own 20-Amp HEAT-A/C fuse.  Included in the blower speed circuit is a resistor under the hood on the cowl.  The A/C clutch does not cycle but is engaged 100% of the time with ignition switch on and MAX COOL or FR COOL buttons are pressed.  That seems like a step backward from efficiency but may be a result of problems with the thermostatic switch??

A recent post indicated the A/C control doors may be left in position by pulling back the FR COOL switch.  The compressor will not operate but fresh air will be routed to the A/C ducts and vents.

Underhood wiring to the A/C clutch and blower speed resistor do not pass through the bulkhead connector but are routed through their own grommet on the firewall.

Val,

Another thing to test is exactly when the fuse blows. If you turn your stat of OFF and it still blows, your problem is somewhere in  the dash controls or power supply dead-shorting. But if it only happens when you demand the compressor, you can suspect the stat arcing or else a short in the single wire leading from the dash to the compressor.

  Hi All,

Just had a new receiver/drier installed yesterday. The mechanic advised the air was nice and cold. Now the 25 amp fuse keeps blowing every time I snap in a new one ! Any thoughts as to the reason ?
