[Chrysler300] manifold heat riser on 61G question(s)

So, my heat risers are nice and free, the bushings seem to be fine and not rattling around in the manifold, and even the little nut and bolt to hold the counterweight to the shaft is not rusted solid, so it is removable.  Problem is the bimetallic springs are crumbling. Is there a cross reference to something newer than 61 that I can get at an auto parts store to just replace the spring?  Do I have to buy an entire heat riser rebuild kit (if there is such a thing)?
Do I just wire it open by closing it first by hand with the counter  weight and then rotating it 90 degrees?
I'm sure I'm not the first to ask these questions.  Any help appreciated.
