I stocked up on R12 back in the day when it was still legal for anybody to buy, and that's been pretty helpful over the years in being able to stay with the old stuff - which is both colder and doesn't have as great a tendency to leak with its smaller molecules. I have enough that I don't think even my great-grandchildren will run out.

I note that Ebay still has a lot of sources that run about $20 a pound, so you can actually fill an entire system for less than $100. Of course you'll have to buy it through your local friendly licensed refrigeration guy, but that's not too hard to do if you offer to front the money for him.

I’m pretty sure the fill and monitoring port connections are changed out when the conversion is made and that should signal any qualified technician, minimize mixing refrigerants or using the wrong gauges and charts.

My system was converted by a licensed technician and has no noticeable markings. It would be easy, neat and safe to “X-out” the 2 in the 12 and add “34”. A caution sticker on the radiator support might be appropriate.

At the end of the day, there should be zero risk to owner/operator/technician due to a conversion. Proper marking might trump originality.

John and all – the tag is reproduced and is on ebay as well as oother sites. Note there are several styles (depends on the year). Pay attention to the â€œmax chargeâ€ values. The reproduction tags have the orange color lettering. These are correct for perhaps â€™65 up (not sure of start year). 1962 and 1963 had red lettering. A later style is better than a missing tag IMHO.

A club member has asked if there is a source of the metal plate attached to the top of the A/C compressor. We have found the other decals for the engine (air cleaner and coolant) but this is different and probably would have to come off a donor car. Any ideas? John Holst...

Do you no where to get the air conditioning spec psi plate?
