Relining old shoes and grinding to match a specific drum is the best way but a good shop will evaluate the shoes for wear, alignment and general condition. And, the shop may want to turn the drums. If turned, a very minimal cleanup pass is all that is needed so as to extend the life of the drum. A full cut to remove all grooves may take the drum past minimum thickness and then you have a new problem finding drums. Assess all springs, nails and hardware when redoing your brakes. Interesting that the service company offers different linings. I recall that the ’55 parts manual specifies different part numbers with different linings for C-300 brakes but does not specify what they are. Fleet pride has over 200 locations in the US . FleetPride Parts & Service, 201 N Columbia Blvd, Portland OR 97217 (Near I-5) Phone: (503) 283-4165 Just send them the lining and drums and they will grind the lining to fit the Drums. The best thing for your would be to drive to Portland, since you are about 200 miles away. Use UPS - 3 day turn around according to the phone call I made today. They have several types of lining, but when they did ours only one type was available. They are mainly an Industrial supply house and supply truck parts etc. Bill, if you have any questions call me at: 503-228-7798.
