Re: [Chrysler300] Torky fluid preference???

I note some feedback that Dexron or Dexron II was best for the TorqueFlite. The 1964 Service Manual still says Type “A” and my best recollection of many previous posts was Type F. But, I am no expert so if one of the Dexron’s is better or more favored than Type F, please chime in so that Joe is properly advised.

A 2008 post says this: “Napa sells a type FA which is basically a direct replacement, I had looked this up for my 56 Roadmaster which uses the type A. Check with a local Napa dealer.”

Trivia: I heard years ago that the “A” of type “A” was for Armour, as in the meat packing outfit. And that as the fluid was produced from animal oils. Later heard it was all whale oil and even later heard that there was some whale oil in it but not all. A majority seemed to indicate their preference was Type F (the F for Ford and/or friction). For firmer shifts and easy on clutches and other components. Type A is not readily available.

It may take some multiple adds and checks to get tranny and torque converter filled.
