I agree with that , Guy . When it was new, I put Michelins ( best , safest tire there is in my opinion) on my new 68 charger , it looked awful . Skinny .. but largest they made , then, sold by sears .
Right proportions and the way the 300 sits matter even more than exact whitewall width , I think . Plus no wide 14" rims are around either , even stock 300 width which I believe is 1/2 " wider than the common 14 " rims . Several of my 300's had the wrong rims . Sometimes mixed . Changing to 15 smart , looks better , tires available, good rims easy --but hub cap issue. Originals OEM on charger went 15 k miles , Michelin about 50. While discussing tires , I had terrible experiences with three sets of big $ Goodyear eagles . 12 k each set on Mercedes . Goodyear claimed misalignment . They aligned . They wrecked car alignment playing with it. MB said alignment perfect . Michelin fixed that too . And had a Firestone side wall blowout. On exit ramp at 55 . Nice . Let's hope somehow Diamondback comes through on a good 14 . On Coker --the other line, American Classic 14" is supposedly a lot better . I have them , on several cars , look great but very few miles . John G Sent from my iPhone
That's good news. Hope they are 235/75. I have seen Many 14 inch tires on Cs thru Fs that look too skinny and/or short on the big Chryslers. That's the main reason I have been reluctant to buy a new set. My 2 cents. Guy
Sent from my iPhone Guy and Group,
I spoke with James at Diamondback a few weeks ago, and he's expecting the proper 14's will be available for us next year in Diamondback's Classic Series. I've got over 40,000 miles in my 8 year old Diamondbacks - vulcanized whitewalls on 6-ply Vredstein tires, that have been great for all the long-distance cruising in my F, and still with plenty of tread.

For a long period, this site was rife with tales of Coker radial tire failures (blowouts at freeway speeds and less) and the poorest customer service imaginable. Hard to get past that history and regain trust. Especially for tires that cost 3X what a similar standard tire costs. The tires on our previously-owned ’55 C-300 were possibly installed as early as 1989. L78x15 Remingtons (Canadian) 3” WSW and tube-type on wire-spoke wheels. Wore like iron, still sorta white and no problems at 90+MPH. Not smart, for sure, but that’s the way it was and possibly is. Rich Barber Brentwood, CA PS: FYI on the Toyos: The family I bought the Hawk from live in Chatanooga and know the Cokers and they actually switched from a set of Corky's tires to the Toyos since they weren't happy with the Cokers. I didn't ask for details as it may have been a switch from bias ply Cokers to radial Toyos, so maybe apples to oranges... Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone. I have the Toyo tires on my G. Also have had Toyo tires on a daily driver in the past and very happy with them. I think it is a Japanese company
Sent from my iPhone Spoke with James at Diamond Back this afternoon and he stated 235!75 R15 was the correct size for a G. He advised of brands: Nexin & Toyo. Never heard of either one. I suppose they are made by a major company? Val J

I think Coker now has some 8.00R15 vintage looking whitewalls not sure sidewall width, but 1961 was last of the wide whitewalls and they had gotten progressively narrower by year til they went to narrow white in 1962. There may be some better experts here, but as first responder, I would guess about 3 inches - not much wider. 225/70R15 (nominally 27.4 inch OD) equated to G70-15 or in your vintage 7.10-15. 227/75R15 (28.3 OD) H78-15 or roughly 7.60-15; 235/70R15 (27.9 OD) H70-15 (same load as 225/75R15 or H78-15) 235/75R15 (28.9 OD) J78-15 or roughly 8.00-15 - still slightly smaller OD and radials even at higher pressure will have lower static loaded radius (shorter sidewall with more bulge at bottom). Edward Mills Antique Tractors 1930-1960 Antique Cars 1960-1985 Now that I've sold my 61 Corvette my 61 300G gets all the attention! 1. What width size whitewall did the 300G come with? I'm planning on buying Coker radials, The stock size was 8.00 - 15. Would that equate to 225 70R-15? 2. I also need to do the brakes from stem to stern. I was going to use NAPA for most of the parts. Comments? Recommendations? Has anyone used s/s brake lines from Good Brakes or Brake Hoses Unlimited on EBay?
