My understanding that 1955 was the only year that factory A/C was not a standard option. And, that, even so, a few 1955 C-300’s were built that way on special order. The A/C was trunk mounted with cool little fresh air scoops on tops of the rear fenders and the cold-air outlets on the package sheIf. Plus, a mile of hose and wiring from the engine compartment and dash board switches to the big, dual-fan evaporator box sitting on the front edge of the trunk. A/C was available on all other ’55 Chrysler’s with wagons having a roof-mounted evaporator and fan. I believe that factory A/C was available on all other letter cars. Another interesting feature of the 1955 C-300’s is that they were not available from the factory with backup lights or an outside manual rear-view mirror. Ostensibly to telegraph “race car” from the outside. Bizarre, at best. A power seat, all power windows, foot-operated signal-seeking radio and rear-seat speakers were available on the inside for the creature comfort of the buyers. Dealers could readily install backup lights and mirrors. The A/C would have taken some doing and included a boxed radiator for better cooling. Almost anything or any color could be special ordered in those days so there are (or were) a few 1955 C-300’s with factory paint color different than Platinum, Black and Tango Red. Other students of the marque may have better recollection and information. Hi all, Is there any record of these being installed from the factory in any mid to late 50's Letter Cars. Thanks,
