If the car originally had factory AC, the questionable piece in the upper
hose would be the brass insert for the belt guard, it would have a flat side
that would be turned down for a little more clearance.
If we could post pictures on the,.. ahem, server, I'd post one up
of the one on my Parade Green C!!

Does VIN id a fuel car in any way? Probably had a unique distributor to pick
up needed signals.

that is on the Forward Look site a lot.
