WE did just that back in ’79 when dealers were dropping like flies 

Lots of work, yes, but great fun as well.

I still have a lot of stuff left, but it has really been cherry picked.

I agree, parts books are a MUST to I.D. stuff, especially MoPar, that is if they have any.

Great idea, buying the entire inventory.

With a little effort, sort out the Mopar stuff, then offer the rest to other clubs, or wholesalers. 

Then you would have all the parts books and suchlike, which goes for big $$$

Yep, some work, but no pressing time limits and you could end up with ALL the Mopar stuff free, and make profit on the rest.

Wish I could handle  it...

   You might also look for brake (wheel) cylinders.  A few years ago I bought what my NAPA guy said was their entire supply for my G.

(and it wasn't that many)

John Hertog and I did this same thing years ago. John bought entire inventory of old mom and pop auto parts. We pulled out all the Mopar stuff. And sold the brand X stuff to a auto parts supplier who specialized in obsolete parts.He came and took all the brand x stuff.

Old stock Auto-lite points, condensers, tune up parts. Rebuildable Carter fuel pumps, hydraulic brake light switches, WCFB, AFB carbs, old tools, like the KD435 door handle remover (they used to sell in a blister pack for 3.00).

I need to gather a little collective wisdom. A 47 year old auto parts supplier is going out of business in our small town after the recent death of its founder. And the family will soon be selling out the inventory.

 

I talked to a family member this morning and I believe that before an inventory buyer hauls everything off in bulk, I may be given a chance to go through and look for prizes in the back of shelves and in the corners of the basement. This is a small, old-timey shop, and I have no idea what I may find there, but I get to play the role of "picker".

 

What advice can I gain from you guys regarding hard-to-find parts that I should be on the lookout for in a place like this? For example fuel pumps (I know they have at least some), or ceramic element fuel filters.
