Snooping around other links, I find that backfires occur easier with too much retard so I advanced it 3/8's of an inch and the car started without back fire but quickly hit about 2500 rpm before I shut it down. The real culprit was a sticking throttle adjustment that threw way to much fuel during startup. All is well and as Sergeant Preston of the Yukon said as he closed his radio program in the 50's......"King, this case is closed."
