Hi Tom Always check the basics regardless of the car. If the timing is off, the car could stall like that. If it is the carbs, it is either giving too much or too little fuel at idle. Should be able to smell too rich a mixture in the exhaust. Makes your eyes water! I use a vacuum gauge to tell what is going on. Should be high and steady. If it slowly drifts back and forth, usually rich. If the needle jitters, usually lean. An accurate tacho can also be used to get a steady setting but a vacuum gauge can tell a lot more. (Google for info) Try resetting the throttle and the idle mixture screws as per the manual and use the vacuum gauge to get a steady reading from there by turning idle screws in and out. Your idle passages may be blocked from sitting. May need to remove the screws and squirt a little carb cleaner in the holes. Idle bypass screws were used on the 300C to give the air flow at idle. As far as I am aware, the 300D uses the throttle plates to provide air flow. The manual says to close them all the way (no adjustment after that). So, why are they there and have a spring on them? I have, just for the sport, messed with their position (all the way in, 2 turns out, etc..) and do not see any effect. Also, can’t get the idle below 1100RPM without the engine stalling. Checked for vacuum leaks and don’t have any. Carbs were rebuilt a while back, but the car set for a few years. Took both off, completely cleaned everything, put in new accelerator pumps and car starts OK, idles high (smooth) and when I drop it into gear dies immediately. Is this a carb issue, or possibly torque converter locked up? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom with 300D in (last few days) rainy Tucson Tom Chvapil <mailto:tomchvapil@xxxxxxxxx> tomchvapil@xxxxxxxxx [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Posted by: "Henry Schleimer" <henry.schleimer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or go to https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/all/manage/edit For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylang ------------------------------------ Yahoo Groups Links <*> To visit your group on the web, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/ <*> Your email settings: Individual Email | Traditional <*> To change settings online go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join (Yahoo!
