Never had one fail when installed correctly. Maybe good luck or a case of "they don't makem' like they used to".
My Dad and I installed the first one we ever bought in a '77 Cordoba (400 CI) to replace the 'Lean Burn' system and ran that car into the ground. 20+ years later a guy bought the car for the drivetrain and drove the rusty hulk out of the yard and onto a trailer
with the same original distributor and control box.
Also ran a '67 Coronet with 3 different big blocks for 9 years....same box, just bought the distributor when I went from 383 to 440.
Ran a 360 in our early Dodge Winnebago with the MP unit and had one failure until we moved the box to a cooler location.
I've used a pertronix conversion in my '65 300 and my classic boat with a dual point mallory distributor and tach drive. Both were money well spent in my opinion but the Pertronix is slick in allowing you to retain an original look.
