I agree it dissolves rust but it is pretty strong stuff.  I would be very careful about handling it and you will have to find an out of the way piece to test it on.

I have never tried this myself, so it would be best to try it on a spare headliner, or some similar material. I would try some CLR, stain remover. It seems to dissolve rust stains.

How do you remove them?

The list of things tried:

mineral spirits

alcohol

carpet cleaner

Go Jo hand cleaner with pumice

hand soap

Murphy's oil soap

tooth brush

scrub brush

Results:

sore arms

and

some improvement

Is there a secret?

I'm all ears.
