Keep in mind that these places that “rebuild” steering boxes do not replace
the pitman shaft, or the worm carrier. These are the toothed pieces that make
contact when you steer, and have a back lash adjustment. They are only available
NOS as far as I know. If they are worn excessively, you will have to find a
better box. Most of what you are getting is new bearings and a re-seal. A
complete rebuild kit with bearings and seals is less than $30.00. I do all my
own myself, and some for others. I always center punch the coupler and input
shaft so they can go back the same way. Even if you don’t, it’s not that hard to
figure out. The wheel turn 3 1/2 turns from lock to lock. Turn the coupler all
the way to one end and turn back 1 3/4 turns. This puts you in the middle of the
travel. Install the steering wheel on the shaft and with it centered, see how
the end of the shaft is oriented. This will be the location of the coupler on
the box shaft. Any slight variation can be adjusted out at the tie rods.

We have a video on steering box replacement which also
