Re: [Chrysler300] 64 K console question

Noel,

I do have air con. The manual state it come out from under the dash, exiting the drivers side foot well! I will have to wait for a warm dry day to extricate my big black whale out of the garage to poke my head up under there!

I have the shifter loose so taking the console out easily would be a boon. Taking the seats out is a bit more in scope with little room to work. 'Til spring!

Allan,

If your K is similar to my F, then you can remove the heater motor cover without pulling your console [and front seats], but it's far from an enjoyable task.

A year ago, my F's heater motor was shorting out, so had to pull it. The long housing was mounted to the firewall by 3 bolts - I recall one on the driver's side and two on the passenger side. That was the easy part. Then twisting and turning the housing, and squeezing my hand inside the housing to unbolt the heater motor from its metal housing, using the Braille method. Finally was able to remove the motor and its housing, and install a replacement motor - PACCAR HA-1105 - that I picked up at a nearby Peterbilt shop for about $70. The replacement motor works fine, but makes more noise than my original heater motor, so I had my original motor rebuilt this winter. I'll swap my original now-rebuilt motor back in this year, after the weather breaks and I get motivated enough to do so.

Final comment - If you don't have a/c, then I think you'll have a bit if an easier time than I did accessing your housing and motor.

May I ask if anyone knows , from experience if the console must be removed to access and remove the heater motor for R&R?

I've got a mouse nest or something in there! Just found some nesting of some critter in the sail panel light!

The manual describe the process, but does not indicate if this applies to the models with the a console. Not much reference to console models in the book.

And if the console has to be removed, both seats have to come out as well?

Many thanks!
