Bill, There is a single wire that goes into a black plunger guide, held in with a stamped metal retainer secured by one screw.

there is no cancelling switch or devise on my 62 Sport that i can figure out ?????

switch that doesn't work,

don't throw it away. 

We are looking at a project to build a modern switch
from the core and if it gets to fruition, we will need
old broken units for the recreation.
