RE: [Chrysler300] 1957 DeSoto

There were Adventurers right up to 1960. The 57 was their last hemi , 341” 2 - 4 bbl. Essentially the same car as 300 , but smaller cu in and totally different hemi engine unique to Desoto. I thought all Desoto were hydraulic lifters, but someone said solids in 57, --I do not think so, stock, but not sure--I do remember doing lot of work on a black 56 Adventurer personally, with a friend converting to stick shift ,and changing to solid lifters with adjustable push rods. So 56 Adventurer for sure hydraulic . Way cool car, gold hubcaps and trim. I believe a 57 convert has sold for more than any 300. (300k $ plus) Rare. I had a 57 adventurer coupe, sold it 30+ years ago..

Dodge and Chrysler had solids in high end engines , in particular 56 D500 was really fast. 57 less so. Anyone remember Broderick Crawford, ?Highway Patrol? Ca state troopers, all had 56 D500. 100’s of them. CHP tested all 56 cars, D500 (had those “awful 300 12” brakes” in police package) ran away from all the others, 130 or something, Ford dead at 110. And best brake performance of all the cars tested. Was a big deal at the time, I was 13 or 14. I remember it vividly . (already hooked) They bought all 56 Dodge hemi D500 police cars. Remember on 10” TV seeing him run down Fords and shoebox Chevs. My Dad had a 51 Stude, I killed him to get a Dodge. He bought a 53 Dodge 4 dr six, as bad as the Stude (almost) ; incessant beating on him got us a used 57 D 500 but a 4dr, it was slow.

56 was it…..later I got a 57 d500 stick convert. 600$ in 1960. Wish I still had it..it got a 392 eventually.

 Hi All

There doesn't seem to a Adventurer in 1957. All DeSoto V8s have hydraulic lifters. The hottest DeSoto engine in 1957, the Fireflite, 341CI Hemi with 4bbl. 1956 Adventurer, same engine. 1958 Adventurer, 361ci wedge with 2 4bbl carbs
