RE: [Chrysler300] 1962 383 Carter Carb

Agree totally with Ray…AFB runs ok, but always seems to be under 15 mpg. AVS was from emissions period, much tighter overall quality control , Edelbrock gave it a performance tune—smart –probably partially motivated by hassles with AFB. ; Thermoquad even better, but they are like Rochester I believe, two small and two huge bores.

Just off the pain of worn throttle shafts on old used carbs. A kit won’t fix that.

Matt;

I've read in the past that the very best 4 bbl is the AVS style. This was on the 440 in the 70 Hurst cars.

Edlebrock is reissuing these and they are in the $400. range. Based on your engine and what cam and such, you select the cfm that you need, from 600 to too many.

I think in the long run you would be better off with a new carb, better suited to your needs. With what I've seen of the costs of rebuilding on old one, nicely done, costs are about the same.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

Ray

I am need of a Carter AFB 4 Barrel for my 383 build.

I have a 1963 factory intake.

This is going to live on a 383 block under the hood of my 1962 300 Sport.

Anyone have one for sale?

Would be interested in the heat riser part that lie in the chock pot as well.

I may also need a stock air cleaner..

I have a lead on an already rebuilt Carter 3253S...but am awaiting more details.

Thanks!
