it is very hard to judge by eye to the accuracy you need if doing this for ignition - on a hemi I found that I think it was a 3/8 or 1/2 socket extension just fits plug hole ( be sure spotless ) and you can puta dial indicator on top of it . rough position it by eye then you see dial indicator come up and then reverse . Do it from both directions if at all different by a degree go in middle . related , to be sure on power stroke — you can feel difference in air pressure , or if un disturbed — look at rotor . When on #1 tdc , slot for distributor is parallel to block , on either of the two TDC — if cam gear in right — but distributor can also go to slot two ways . Combination of all this can confuse . So slot straight , power stroke TDC , rotor at #1 On wedge the piston stop method probably best , that tool is cheap stuff . J
