All,
To clarify some items on 3N552586 that is currently on BAT. According to the files I have it was built as a Platinum example but at this time I have no further details on specifics of this example.
There are comments on the site about this car and according to the writeup probably done by the folks at BAT they are inaccurate. In particular readers comment about the wheels stating that "all 55 300s came with such. This of course is not correct as wire wheels were an option. Beyond that readers and or BAT are trying to represent these wheels as factory correct. They are not and this is easily proved by counting the spokes and if you come up with more than 48, I counted 56, they are aftermarket. To further prove this look at the trunk shots and you can see the bolt pattern with at least 10 holes which tells me they are aftermarket wheels probably from China. The tires are 8:20x15 which is wrong as factory tires were 800:15. The whitewalls are at least 1" wider than offered by the factory and I don't think Firestone was the brand at that time.
I've found other items regarding this car that are not factory correct but don't see the point in going there. What I do get upset with is all of the "chairside authorities" who make comments that are just wrong. I guess it comes down to if it is on the internet it must be fact.
