FW: {Chrysler 300} 64 upshift timing setting

Hey, Just a shout out of thanks to Bob Haag for his input.

I went back at it and with the 3/16” rod in place, I stretched the slop out of the kickdown down link and gained about 1/8” in length from my marker line.

Then fully lengthening and thus pushing the throttle link all the way back with the throttle in position, I saw the throttle lever on the trans bottom out forward.

When everything was tight, I easily removed the 3/16” rod; no binding.

Shifts like a dream now!

Allan

I assume Don Verity will agree with me on this, the procedure for setting the TV rod (throttle valve rod-maybe Chrysler calls it something else) is set in stone. You are to set it to the specifications set forth in the shop manual. It is not adjusted for preference or feel, it is not a user control interface. It is an adjustment that once made on a correctly operating transmission is not to be made again until the carb/pedal linkages are disturbed. The risk in maladjustment is to drive around with improper line pressures and burn up clutches.

Yes it's called different things.

It connects the throttle to

The transmission throttle

Pressure lever on transmission.

This controls shift timing in

Relation to throttle opening.

It also provides down shifting

Or kick down when throttle

Is wide opened.

Do you mean transmission rod adjustment?

If you make the transmission

Kick down rod longer it

Will shift later.

Make it shorter it will shift

Sooner. The lever on the transmission should be all

The way forward with the throttle closed on curb idle.

I could not find the recent thread in the archives regarding increasing the upshift timing on the 63-64 300’s. Will lengthening the carburetor rod raise the upshift timing? Or shortening?

I have done all of the prescribed adjustments described in the manual, twice. Getting the pedal to 114 degrees is now almost touching the floor board!

There isn’t a rubber stop internally on the throttle transmission lever in there that may have worn or deteriorated, is there?

My trans is not downshifting to my liking with more throttle. Stays in 2nd when accelerating after upshift at a very slow roll, and then stays in 3rd no matter what at speeds from 25 mph and up.

Or do it a third time?
