Agreed. The 300L was the first Lettercar completely designed by Elwood Engel who had come from Ford. Note the resemblance with the rails along the top of the doors and side trim as it was on the Lincolns, Mercurys and Thunderbirds of that era. Even though
I would have preferred the car not having skirts, the 300L styling called for them.
Esner's designs, good or bad, all had flowing sculptured looks as compared to Elwood Engel's squared off and chiseled lines. Much more conventional of course. I always thought Engel's name should have been spelled "Angle" because everything he designed was
angular and squared off.
Oddly enough, they kept the open rear wheel wells on the 1964-66 Imperials which were much more Engel than Exner except for the windshield area.
