The most common cause of a problem with trans going in is someone stepped on the clutch with the trans out . Happened to me when young , my brother did that playing in the car while I was rebuilding trans. I thought / knew it was perfectly aligned , I had just pulled it out . Big $ ( for me at 17) custom adapter bell housing casting , 392 to Packard od trans , I cracked it trying to pull with threaded rods that I was using as a support / guide . Lesson learned , although rods are a good idea as guides .
