Thanks, Don
The guy I spoke to is the guy I usually avoid (he’s never been particularly helpful in the past) but there wasn’t anyone else at the counter . He said whatever filter he was ordering was for Plymouth, Dodge etc. I took it upon myself when I got home to see what the Napa website came up with for a 1-4005 replacement and that’s what this was. Obviously wrong!
There’s a number of filters on the link you sent (large hole, small hole, etc) so I’m guessing that I’ll need to wait until I drop the pan to determine which is correct. I thought it was just a matter of making sure there were two holes because it’s an early-mid 60’s 727.

The filter shown is not even close. Your NAPA store needs someone who knows something about old cars. These guys have the correct filters in both styles. https://www.tsr-racing.com/chrysler-a727.html?cat=52 Geeze, this isn't rocket science.
Don
Napa doesn’t have that filter # 1-4005 listed anymore . They say it’s been superseded by another number and they ordered it for me (will be here tomorrow.) I don’t know
What number the new one is but I see on the Napa website that 1-4005 has been replaced by ATP 15965. (Pic attached.) The website also says it will not fit a ‘65 cable shift 727 (which is what’s in my F.)
What are the other filter numbers you have?
Thanks,
Keith

Thanks Rick,
I'll see if I can easily get the Napa 1-4005. If not I'll reach out for those other numbers.

In a 1962 727 Transmission can the original filter be replaced with the newer filter?
It seems logical that the newer filter would filter much better than a wire mesh.
