That car pictured started life as a "Silver 300" package car. The only 300/300K cars to receive a vinyl top and roof molding in 1964 were the "Silver 300" package cars. The "Silver 300" package was created to use up the back stock of canopy vinyl tops (which were only available on the New Yorker Salon) before the end of the year and the subsequent body change for 1965. The "Silver 300" package cars all had paint code "229", "22" for Silver paint and "9" for roof molding. The body data plate will also have the number 5 under the Z on the middle lines to signify the vinyl top. A total of 2,152 300's and 255 300K's were built with the Silver 300 package in the latter half of the 1964 model year.
The silver paint did not hold up too well to sun exposure. It appears that the car pictured was repainted white.
