The J came with either red cleaners or gold. A lot of the surviving Js have red, but that is anecdotal. There are no codes on the build cards for the color of the cleaners. We are also aware of a few Js that had red cleaners with gold bases. Or vice versa. Perhaps an issue of what was available in the parts bin on the assembly line?
On the ram K it seems that most of the cleaners are gold.
Some of both years have chrome cleaners. We do not have evidence that chrome cleaners were offered by the factory for J or ramK. Perhaps they were a dealer accessory item.
I used Felpro 11528 for the air cleaner gaskets.

I was wondering what the correct color would be for the air cleaners on the J/K ram carbs as that’s what will be going on the 413 that Dominick Rinaldi has built for our 4 speed K and it appears the answer is red. Red is the color on the cleaners I got with the short rams and 3505s AFBs that I bought some years ago (and which Jim McGowan recently restored) but I was not sure if they should be gold so now I know the answer!
Dumb question: does anyone have a part # for the skinny round 4.5” gasket that goes between the carb and the base of the air cleaner or is that just a simple match up at Napa?
